What to know
The lawn area is only the start of the price
Two lawns with the same square footage can require very different labor. Existing turf, roots, grade, soil condition, irrigation, delivery distance, pallet access, slopes, curves, and cleanup all change the installed cost.

How much extra sod should an estimate include?
A simple layout may use five to ten percent, while curves, narrow strips, diagonal placement, uncertain measurements, or repair work can require more. Base the allowance on the actual layout and supplier packaging.
Should sod removal and soil preparation be separate line items?
They should at least be included in the scope and price. Separate line items can make changes easier to explain when removal, grading, amendment, or disposal differs from the original assumption.
